TRAVERSE CITY — Ruth I. Edgett, 84, of Traverse City, passed away Nov. 11, 2011, surrounded by her family.Born in Rockland, Wis., April 29, 1927, she was the daughter of Charles H. and Grace (Rouland) Hodgkins. On March 19, 1952, she married George Edgett in Summit City, where she spent most of her life bringing up her family. She had many friends in northern Michigan who adored her, and she touched many lives.Ruth enjoyed watching the birds outside her window at Joy Givers Assisted Living, or playing euchre with some of the ladies, but she especially enjoyed time spent with her family. Ruth was a long-time member of First Congregational Church.She is survived by her twin sister, Ruby Peek, of Sparta, Wis.; two sons, Richard (Maggie) Hodgkins, of Flint, and Scott Edgett, of Traverse City; two daughters, Mary (John) Fraiser, of Traverse City, and Daisy (Mike) McMullen, of Grand Rapids. Also surviving are four granddaughters, Vickie (Mike) Shank and Dawn Fraiser, all of Traverse City, Linnea Delahanty, of Novi, and Kala (Greg) Carto, of Flint. Ruth is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Derrick, Brooke, Amanda, Courtney, Adam and Alyvia; along with many, many friends.Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1981; and her son, Levi, in 2000.A visitation time to celebrate Ruth's life and to send her to join her angels will be held from 4 until 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.Memorial contributions may be directed to First Congregational Church or to Munson Hospice and Palliative Care.Please share your memories of Ruth with her family by way of her online guest book at
