Ruth Lillian Epting, 94, of Traverse City passed away May 21, 2019. She was born on January 10, 1925 in Urbana, Illinois. Ruth studied speech therapy at the University of Illinois-Urbana and also worked at the college radio station. She was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority and stayed active in it for 71 years.

Ruth moved to Traverse City in 1957. She volunteered her time teaching reading and mentoring at-risk youths in the Traverse area. She loved to golf and was a long-time member of Grand Traverse Country Club. She enjoyed mystery novels, gardening, embroidery and rubber-stamping.
Ruth leaves behind her children Susan (Tom) and David (Tracy) and her grandchildren Jennifer, Rebecca and David.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Lucille; first husband Arthur Moenkhaus; second husband Richard Epting; sister Helen; and brother Richard.

A celebration of Ruth's life will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, June 1, 2019. Gathering for family and friends begins at 10:00 am and will continue until the time of service at the Funeral Home. Reverend Chris Lane will serve as officiant.
