Ruth Amelia Groll, 95, passed away in Caledonia on February 28, 2026.
Ruth was born on November 22, 1930, in Holgate, Ohio to the late Theodore and Amelia (Badenhop) Sonnenberg.
On November 22, 1951, her 21st birthday, she married Donald E. Groll and together they shared fifty-seven wonderful years before his passing.
Ruth earned her Associates Degree in Business from Capital University and her Bachelors Degree in Education from Central Michigan University. She was an incredible teacher and taught elementary school for twenty-four years, in Holgate, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan and many years at Central Lake Pubic Schools, Central Lake, Michigan.
Ruth lived in Henry County, Ohio, Mt. Pleasant, Central Lake, Traverse City and Caledonia, Michigan. She was a member of Belltower Reformed Church in Ellsworth, Michigan for many years. In her retirement she volunteered for the Central Lake District Library and the Traverse Area District Library. Throughout her life she enjoyed reading, working all types of puzzles and playing Bridge.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don, brothers and sisters Reinhold, Laura (Gerken), Rufina, Julian, Julia (Mangas), Willis and Otis Sonnenberg.
Ruth is survived by her sons Steven (Kari) and Tony (Kandy); grandchildren Tademy Bultema (Lucas), Taylor Groll (Katie), Trevor Groll (Anna), Chase Groll (Anna), Blake Groll (Margaret), Eliza Beaulier (Austin); and great-grandchildren Deklan, Jace, Fletcher, Vera, Gabby, Arnold, Briggs, Herschel and Everett, many cherished nieces and nephews; as well as life long friends Erma Biler and Irene Rader.
According to her wishes, cremation has taken place and she will be laid to rest at the Lakeview Cemetery in Eastport, Michigan at a later date.
