Traverse City - Ruth Thelma Whitten, 95, of Traverse City passed away October 28, 2017 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.

Ruth was born on September 1, 1922 at her home in Lake Ann to the late Effie Augusta (Stetson) Beckwith and William Reid Beckwith.

Ruth graduated from Traverse City High School in 1940. She was a psychiatric nurse for the state hospital for 25 years. She retired in 1982.

In her spare time she enjoyed completing cross word puzzels, reading, visiting yard sales and gardening. She also loved animals. Ruth also loved clouds and would often comment on their unique shapes and beauty.

Ruth is survived by her children Sandra (Perry) Oswald of Bensalem, PA, Judi (Lonnie Miller) Banaszewiski of Traverse City, Robert (Christine) Whitten of Interlochen and Ruthanne (William Rennie) Whitten-Rennie of Lake Ann; 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and brothers William and Gerry.

Ruth will be laid to rest at the Lake Ann Cemetery on July 28, 2018 at 11:30 am. The family will celebrate her life at the Lake Ann Lake Front Park after the interment.
