Obituary

Ruthann M. (nee Twomley) Fischer was born on October 15, 1938 in Owosso, Michigan to Ford and Helen (nee Marrah) Twomley. She died Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Alexian Brothers Hospice Residence in Elk Grove Village, Illinois.

Mrs. Fischer graduated from St. Paul's Catholic High School in Owosso, Mi. She continued her education at Sienna Heights College and Nazareth College in Michigan for Education. Ruthann spent more than 25 years of her professional career as an Educator with the Carman-Ainsworth School District holding various positions. She retired as Media Specialist where she shared her love for books and knowledge with elementary children. Additionally, she acted as Spokesperson for her Teachers Union and was responsible for negotiations. During her retirement in Traverse City, Ruthann worked as an Aide in the Physical Therapy Department at Munson Community Health Center. Ruthann was always active in her Catholic parishes where she regularly participated as a lecturer, Eucharistic Minister, Activity Chairman, Parish Council Member, and volunteer. She was a member of the Old Mission Women's Club, The Elks, and Prayer Chain Club at St. Francis of Assisi. Ruthann also served as President on the Board of her Neighborhood Association.

Ruthann was a shining light of love and joy. She had a beautiful, caring, soul. We will miss her smile, sparkling eyes, and gentle, easy, warm welcoming nature. All of that, plus her true strength. Though she rarely brought it up, she was a fierce fighter of multiple myeloma. In 2008, she received a stem cell transplant from Mayo Clinic, was in remission for 2 years, and fought the remaining 8 years on constant chemotherapies and never complained. She taught us all the importance of family and friends. Ruthann had a way of making each and every person she met feel special. You were a better person for having known her. A true quality person who was so loved and will be so missed. Heaven gained an amazing angel.

Thank you for all the inspirational cards, love and support provided by her family, friends and neighbors.

Ruthann is survived by her children Lisa (Tim) Wheatley, Michelle (Jim) Griffin, Greg (Jana) Fischer, and, Monica (Dave) Daniels; her grandchildren, Andrew Wheatley, Amanda (Matt) McGuire, Jonathon Wheatley, Anna Wheatley, Greg Fischer, Nick Fischer, Erica Fischer, Rachel Fischer, Will Daniels, and Ryan Daniels; and her siblings brothers Dan (Debbie) and Bob (Patty) Twomley.

She was preceded in death by her husband William A. Fischer; and her parents.
