Sally Ann Maxson, born Sally Ann Hasse to Edward and Dorothy Hasse in February, 1951, died unexpectedly on August 13, 2021. Sally was her given name, but the names she cherished the most and was the most proud of included Wife, Mom and Grandma. She met our Dad, C. David Maxson, while she was in high school and he had just enlisted in the Navy to serve during the Vietnam War. They were married on February 28, 1968. My parents had a fabulous 53 year marriage!
My sister and I were the luckiest kids around to have a mom like her. We were so proud of our mom! She was our biggest fan and loudest cheerleader throughout our sporting and academic endeavors. We had the best mom ever! We take great comfort in knowing that we always told each other "I love you" at the end of a phone call or when leaving each others company. She never missed a day of putting a love note in my Dad's sack lunch that she so lovingly prepared. Our mom was an accomplished baker; everyone will miss her famous chocolate-chunk and sea-salt cookies. She was a sensational gardener, just ask anyone in her neighborhood. Our mom was also a voracious reader and loved to travel. Above all else, she loved her family beyond words.
The last two decades she got to share her love and support for her grandsons: Cam Fewless, Nick Fewless and Cole Maxson. She made sure that each of them always knew they were loved and could be anything they dared to be. Grandma's house was always a "safe" place and she always had the best snacks. Grandma Maxson could make anything better. Cam, Nick and Cole – always remember how much she loved you. She would have done anything for you.
Sally was preceded in death by both of her parents. Surviving are her husband C. David Maxson, her son and daughter-in-law Scott and Sherry Maxson and daughter and son-in-law Amy and Randy Fewless; and by her beloved grandsons Cam, Nick and Cole. Also surviving are her sisters Sue King (Richard) and Sherry Cockrell (Jim), her sister-in-law Sandie Grubbs (Jim) and many nieces and nephews.
We would like to say thank you to the staff at Munson D5 and want you to know how much we appreciate you and the compassion you demonstrated to both our mom and our family. Our mom loved kids and animals, so please consider a donation to the Cherryland Humane Society or St. Jude Children's Hospital in lieu of flowers.
Also, we can't begin to express the gratitude for the love and support showed to our Dad by his work family at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. We could never trust anyone else during this difficult transition and know that you will treat our mom with compassion and dignity. Thank you for everything.
Family and friends will gather for a commemoration of Sally's life on Thursday, August 19, 2021 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Additionally, please leave a comment on Sally's tribute page on the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home website at
