Sally Marie McNutt, 91, of Traverse City passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 with her loving family at her side.
Sally was born on March 22, 1933 in Detroit, MI to the late Alexander Angus and Helen Rankin (Connelly) McHardy. She graduated from The Leelanau School in Glen Arbor in the Class of 1952. This is where she fell in love with her high school sweetheart Thomas McNutt. She married Tom on December 18, 1954. After the two were wed they raised two wonderful children, Michelle and Tom.
After Tom joined the Air Force, Sally embraced the military lifestyle, enjoying the opportunity to move around to different bases and forming lasting friendships everywhere she went. She remained in touch with many of these friends and their children throughout her life.
A proud stay-at-home mom, Sally cherished taking care of her children. She was known for her meticulous housekeeping and her love of gardening and flowers. In her retirement years, Sally and Tom lived in Florida, where she particularly enjoyed swimming in her pool every day. Her time in Florida was marked by the deep friendships she formed there, which she valued immensely.
Above all, Sally loved her family. She treasured spending time with her children and especially enjoyed having English tea parties with her great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, whose love and kindness touched many lives.
Sally will be deeply missed by her family and friends, who will forever remember her warmth, generosity, and the special times they shared.
