Sally Jo Schmoke, 90, of Traverse City passed away February 8, 2021 at Munson Medical Center.
Sally was born on December 12, 1930 in Muncie, Indiana to the late William Binford and Mary Belle (Ball) Macken.
On March 2, 1957 Sally married Gerald Oswald Schmoke in Detroit. They spent much of their younger years living in Midland and the Detroit area and retired to Traverse City in 1994.
Sally's life was one of service to others.
She was a devoted volunteer for over 25 years at the Father Fred Foundation alongside Gerald. They were also members and volunteers at Christ the King Catholic Church.
She took delight in taking care of her home and family.
True to her lifelong giving nature, she chose to have anatomical donation take place to the Wayne State University School of Medicine.
Sally is survived by her husband of 63 years, Gerald; daughters Julie (Gregory) Thiess, Susan (William) Emerick and Nancy (James) Shay; grandchildren Christopher (Jennifer) Thiess, Carolyn (Keegan) Brennan, Matthew (Taylor) Emerick, Molly Emerick, Cullen (Kaitlin) Shay, Aelish Shay and Jack Shay; and great grandchildren Caden Emerick and Grace Brennan.
Sally was preceded in death by her sister Nancy Folker Hunt; and brothers Dr. Michael Macken and James Dennis Macken.
A memorial service will take place at a later date.
