Samuel J. Lamie of Traverse City, age 90, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2022. He was born to Alfred and Martha (Couturier) Lamie in Lake Leelanau on October 30, 1931. He was a lifelong resident of Traverse City and retired from Cone Drive Gear after 46 years of service.
On June 26, 1950, Sam married Phyllis Ramsey. He built his first house for his growing family on 3 Mile
Road. He built his second house on High Lake. His favorite pastimes were hunting at his cabin and tinkering in his barn on old cars and tractors. After retirement he often met with his friends for coffee. He always called themselves the "Oleson Gang." He had many friends who stopped and visited with him over the years.
He is survived by his children Samuel J. Lamie Jr., Douglas J. Lamie (Marlene Mikowski) and daughter-in-law Adriana (Lonnie) Lamie; his grandchildren Stephen J. Lamie Jr., Adam Lamie, Courtney Lamie, Kyler Lamie and McKenzie Lamie; two great grandchildren Madison and Ava; and his special friend and second
love, Ann Allen.
He was predeceased by his wife Phyllis in 2008; sons Stephen in 2016 and Daniel in 2015; granddaughter Nicole in 1983; daughter-in-law Connie (Lovell) Lamie; siblings Geraldine (Bert) Belanger, Jean (Keith) Warren, Jim (Betty) Lamie, and Harriet (Don) Courtade.
Relatives and friends may call on the family during a time of visitation from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth Street, Traverse City, MI 49684. A praying of the rosary will be offered at 7:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Innocent Zambua at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 12, 2022, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1025 S. Union Street, Traverse City, MI 49684. There will be visitation one hour prior to Mass at church. Immediately following Mass you are cordially invited to join the family at church for a time of fellowship, food, and refreshments. Sam will be laid to rest in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
