Sandra Dee Hovermale

Sandra Dee Hovermale of Bellaire, Michigan, formerly of Jamestown, Indiana, age 86, passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2022.

Sandy was born to Clarence "Jack" and Ethel (Cook) Price in Crawfordsville, Indiana on October 31, 1935.
She and John Ora Hovermale were childhood sweethearts. The day after high school graduation, she traveled with family to Manhattan, KS where John was stationed in the Army. They were wed days later on May 8, 1953, beginning a marriage that spanned over 60 years. Together, they had two sons, Doug and Gary.

Sandy graduated from Jackson Township High School in 1953. She was known for naming the school yearbook later used by Granville Wells known as the "Blackboard". She then went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Indiana Central University and a master's degree from Butler University. She spent 25 years as an elementary school teacher for North Salem Elementary in North Salem, IN before she and John retired to Bellaire, MI in 2000.

Sandy lived life to its fullest and valued family above all else. During this past year she traveled to Indiana, Florida, Las Vegas, and enjoyed one last "Michigan" summer with her sister, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Sandy is survived by her loving sons, Doug (Susan) Hovermale of Clarks Hill, IN and Gary Hovermale of Traverse City, MI; grandchildren Casey Hovermale of Las Vegas, NV, Cody (Stacy) Hovermale of Thorntown, IN, Kiley (Cory) Colby of Speedway, IN, Kala (Morgan) Pepper of Elberfeld, IN, Karley (Jim Marsh) Hovermale or Monrovia, IN, and Ben Hovermale of Traverse City, MI; 11 great grandchildren, Ethan, Sophie, Stella, Charlotte, Ori, Harry, Mackey, Olin, Lottie, Calvin, and Oliva; and twin sister Anndra (Bill) Pepple of Brownsburg, IN.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and beloved husband John on December 2, 2016.

A celebration of life will be held at the Jamestown Christian Church in Jamestown, Indiana on Saturday October 29, 2022, at 10 am with graveside services to follow. An "Up North" celebration will be planned for June 2023 on the shores of Lake Bellaire.
