Sandra Louise Svec (Cogswell), age 73, is singing with angels as she went to be with the Lord on March 14, 2018. Born to Ray and Ethel Cogswell on August 8, 1944 in St. Johns, MI.
She grew up in Traverse City after moving north at the age of 4. She was active in 4-H (where she participated in the 4-H exchange trip), band/music and ice skating. She graduated from TC Central in 1963.
She married George Svec on June 25, 1966 where they resided in Buckley to raise their three sons. Along with raising their boys to be fine gentlemen they also had foster children in their home and opened their house to people in need.
Sandra taught many Sunday school classes and vacation bible schools, along with being active in church her whole life.
In 1990 she made dreams of helping others a reality by starting the Community Meals Program in Traverse City. She has always had a heart for missions and found ways to be a missionary in her local community.
Sandra is survived by her husband, George, sons and their wives; Eric (Kim), Todd (Suzan) and Jason (Beth) as well as 8 grandchildren; Tyler, Jordan, Karina, Ruth, Isaac, Levi, Caleb and Louisa. She is also survived by two foster daughters, Helen and Joan as well as a foster grandson Dillon.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Walter.
A visitation will take place Sunday March 18, 2018 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home from 6-8pm. A funeral service will take place Monday March 19, 2018 at the Fresh Wind Christian Community Church; 18201 Honor Hwy, Interlochen, MI 49643 at 2:00pm with visitation one hour prior.
