"Death is only a launching into the region of the strange Untried…" However, Sarah always referred to her own death as "when I shuffle off". Sarah Elizabeth Navarro "launched" or "shuffled off" peacefully on Monday, August 26, 2024. Her daughters were at her side, comforting and caring for her.
As a mother of four children, Sarah went back to school and earned her Master's Degree in Education from Eastern Michigan University. She enjoyed a long career teaching in the Dearborn school system. Her retirement brought her to Elk Rapids where she enjoyed her house, garden, and many pets. Her love of animals was a constant throughout her life, and she was known to rescue "found" animals and secure placements for them…frequently in her own home. Sarah had an eye for antiques and acquired many throughout her life. She was able to find items of value and worked at Harbor Antiques in Elk Rapids until she was in her late 80's, often joking that she was one of the antiques.
Born in Toledo, Ohio and raised as an only child to Frances Wonders, Sarah, in her golden years, did some research and found/connected with relatives she had previously been unaware of. This discovery ignited her imagination, and she managed to meet and develop new relationships with some of them.
Sarah had a beautiful smile and took pride in her appearance. Every day she put on her makeup, coordinated outfit, and lovely jewelry. She was fiery, independent, and stood out at Glen Eagle in Traverse City, where she spent her final years.
Sarah is survived by her four children: Carol (Cris Campbell) Navarro, Steve (Christina) Navarro, Linda (Liz Prete) Navarro, and Dianne Navarro. She also has four grandchildren (Jeffrey, Adam, Andrew, and Jared), two great-grandchildren (Alexia and Ayla) and one great-great-grandchild (D'Angelo/Deuce). Her family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be given to Tulamar Kennel (6281 Barney Rd.
