Scott Michael Gray, 43, passed away on February 9th, 2014 at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, Michigan, after a brave and valiant battle with cancer. He went to the lord surrounded by loving family.
Scott was born in Traverse City, Michigan on September 25th, 1970, the son of Genevieve (Walters) Lingaur and Larry Gray.
He had a life- long love of Star Wars since attending the first move at the age of 7.
As a youth, Scott was active in Boy Scouts. He earned the high rank of Eagle Scout. In 1985 he attended The National Boy Scout Jamboree at Camp AP Hill, VA. On that trip he stayed overnight on the NASA ship, visited the Smithsonian and the White House in Washington D.C. and also visited Colonial Williamsburg.
He graduated from St. Francis High School, Traverse City, MI in 1989. Scott then attended DeVry Technical Institute, Lombard, IL. He earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Telecommunication's Management in 1992. Scott then moved back to Traverse City to be near family.
Scott moved to Madison Heights, MI five years ago to be near his sister, Gina Watt and her family. He took on the role of live in child caregiver to his nephew, Jean-Luc and his niece, Nicole. Scott enjoyed taking them to the movies and buying them candy at the corner store and having fun swimming in the family pool.
In April, 2013, he enjoyed a family trip to Florida. Then shortly after Scott was diagnosed with cancer, it turned his world upside-down. After many doctor's visits and treatments, he was unable to fulfill his hope of getting a bone marrow transplant.
Scott loved working with computers and animation design. At the time of his death, he was in the process of authoring a book.
Scott will be remembered for being a special person who had kind words for everyone and for being a gentle soul.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Pete and Frances Walters, his paternal grandparents, Art and Esther Gray, and his cousin, Jeremy Stone.
Scott is survived by his loving mother, Genevieve (Genny) Lingaur, his step-father, Ronald Lingaur,
his father, Larry Gray and step-mother Paula (Polly) Gray, Step brother Keith Pelky, Step sisters Marci Conroy and Tracy Baldwin, his devoted sister Gina (Gray) Watt and brother-in-law, Tim Watt, his nephew, Jean-Luc James Watt (12), and his niece, Nicole Renee Watt (7). He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A visitation will be held on February 14th, 2014 from 4-7 pm at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City, MI. Cremation has taken place.
Interment will be held in the spring at Linwood Cemetery, Long Lake Township.
Donations may be made in his name to the Rose Cancer Center, affiliated with Beaumont, as well as to the family intentions.
