Scott Gregory Johnson, 63, of Traverse City passed away peacefully at Munson Medical Center at 12:05 p.m. on Monday, May 21st, 2018. Scott was born on January 11th, 1955 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to the late Charles and Joan (Oatley) Johnson. Scott was an outgoing, vivacious and charismatic person, he could light up any room, he was a great conversationalist and his laughter was infectious. Scott had been most recently employed by the City of Traverse City's Engineering Department serving the community in a position he really enjoyed.

On any given summer day you could find Kim and Scott motoring out to Power Island playing Frisbee in the shallow water, just off shore, and jumping off the dock with "their boating buddies." He loved the water, boating and time at the beach. In the winter months he enjoyed skiing and snowboarding. One of his favorite and most memorable trips was with Kim traveling to Chamonix, France and skiing the Alps. They also enjoyed spending time in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina kayaking and swimming in the ocean together. Because of Scott's mellow and gregarious personality he had many friends. He was patriotic, hardworking, inventive and quite artistic. Among his other interests, Scott had a passion for his pug Roxsey, bird watching, flying remote control airplanes, Barrett Jackson Auctions as well as watching (especially Detroit Lions and University of Michigan football games) and playing sports. He loved lounging around the house in his "jammie" pants and slippers while enjoying a glass of chocolate milk. Above all, Scott cherished spending time with his family and friends; it was his greatest joy.

Scott is survived by the love of his life, Kimberly Cross, his daughter, Jessica Decker, his brother, Mark Johnson and a grandson, Upton Camille Seger. Also surviving are a niece, Kelsey (Ben) Corteggiano and nephew, Jarrett Gersten as well as an extremely special friend, Eddie Freund; who made Scott laugh uncontrollably.

A celebration of Scott's life will take place at 3:00 p.m., with visitation starting at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St., Traverse City, MI 49684. His decades-long, dearest friend and Pastor R. G. Churella will officiate.
