Sharon Livina Cushing, age 80, of Traverse City, peacefully passed away with loved ones present on December 3, 2023, at Life of Riley Assisted Living.
She was born on February 13, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late George and Julia (Vanneste) DeBeck. The family moved up north and made their home in Pellston. After high school she married Donald Peter Bonter on August 5, 1966. After Don returned from his tour in the United States Navy, they moved to Detroit until Don preceded her in death on August 11,1972. After Don's death, Sharon returned to the Pellston area where she earned her associate's degree attending North Central Michigan College while working for the Petoskey Department of Public Safety. After completing college, she moved to Traverse City where she dedicated over 25 years of her career to the Grand Traverse County Prosecutor's Office until her retirement in November 2000.
Following Donald's passing, Sharon found love again when she crossed paths with an old friend, Anthony Cushing. They were a couple for many years prior to their marriage on February 28, 2010 in Traverse City. They retired and purchased their first home together in Leelanau County and cherished many boating adventures, exploring the Great Lakes and the North Channel creating wonderful memories with family and friends. They especially enjoyed spending their summers on the boat in Elk Rapids. After the loss of Tony, Sharon found her beloved dog Bingo. Bingo was her constant companion and brought her great joy for many years.
Sharon was a devoted member of the "Ladies Lunch Gang" for many years, a testament to her enduring friendships. Sharon enjoyed spending time with family, gardening and tending to her home. Her love for family, especially her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, was unparalleled. Known for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering support, Sharon had a heart of gold that touched many lives. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to know and love her.
She is survived by her son, Donald "Todd" (Samantha "Sam") Bonter, grandchildren Danica and Tucker, along with her siblings, Barbara (Bill) Keiser, Rick (Gina) DeBeck, Patrick DeBeck, many nieces, nephews and extended family who she loved dearly.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Donald and Anthony, her brother John and her beloved dog Bingo.
