Sharon Rice, 77, of Traverse City, passed away January 21, 2023.
A lifelong resident of Traverse City, she was born July 18, 1945.
Sharon graduated from Traverse City Senior High School, class of 1967.
She was born with cerebral palsy, but that never stopped her. She was an active, happy go-getter and loved spending summers at Camp Roy-El. She lovingly reminisced about times spent here for the rest of her life.
Sharon spent many years working diligently in Munson's laundry department and at Goodwill.
She loved caring for and being around cats and was a force to be reckoned with at the bingo table. Word searches were a favorite as well. During her time at the Pavilions, she enjoyed visits from the local wild life, from birds and squirrels to deer. Even on the day she passed, a cardinal was waiting there to usher her beautiful soul to rest.
Sharon did not let her disability get the best of her and the same could be said of her battle against breast cancer. Her bright and kind smile was never lost through all of the adversity she faced in life. "Her smile touched everyone who met her."
Sharon is survived by brothers Edward, William "Bill" (Stephanie) and Thomas Loomis and nieces Hilary (David) Loomis-King and Chelsea (Kachi) Loomis-Aguwa; great-nieces and nephews Christian, Louisa, Alex, Margaret and Olivia; and best friend Patti Keim.
She was preceded in death by her father Alvin Loomis, mother Leila (Tilton) Brown; step-father Gary Brown; infant brother Kenneth Loomis and sister-in-law Cynthia Loomis.
A service honoring Sharon's life is scheduled for 3:00 pm, Thursday, February 2, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Visitation one hour prior. Interment will take place at a later date in the Linwood Cemetery, Long Lake Township.
In lieu of flowers please consider memorial contributions to Cherryland Humane Society or Grand Traverse Pavilions.
