Sharon Kay Waltz, 66, of Traverse City passed away Sunday,
November 13th, 2016 at her home surrounded by her beloved family.
Sharon was born on Saturday, April 8th, 1950 to the late George and Mildred
(Shantz) Harris in Flint. She attended school there and graduated from
Flint Northern. Sharon married Ed Waltz on Saturday, March 21st, 1992 in
Las Vegas. She and Ed have lived in Traverse City since 1994, having lived
in Caledonia previously.
Sharon was a wonderful and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed
gardening, being outside, shopping, pretty dresses and jewelry. Whether she
was going out for dinner, or just out to the mailbox, Sharon was dressed to
perfection. She was an awesome cook and baker and was known for her HoHo
cake. Marme, as she was affectionately called by her grandchildren, always
had a treat of some sort for them when they would come to visit. Sharon
loved to bake Christmas cookies and would begin their preparations long
before Christmas. The cookies were then frozen until Christmas Eve, when a
few were set out - the rest being served on Christmas Day. No one was
allowed to have any prior to these two dates without facing her wrath. In
recent years, Sharon's daughters looked forward to Christmas Cookie weekend
when they would gather to help in the cookie preparation. She always
planned surprises, like confetti inside a birthday card or wrapped in the
paper surrounding a gift. She took great pride in decorating her home, it
looking like a page out of Better Homes and Gardens. And her table was
always set with the finest china and accessories for family dinners and
holidays.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Ed; her children, Heidi (Charles) Nutter
of Davison, Denny (Julie) Powers of Waterford, Elizabeth (Craig) Hurbanis of
Caledonia, Beth Ann (Kevin) Kniffin of Traverse City, Michael (Jennifer)
Waltz of Sussex, WI and Robert Waltz of Grand Rapids. Sharon is also
survived by her beloved 13 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. She was
preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Carl and Dennis Harris.
Visitation for Sharon will take place from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov.
16th at The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
Funeral services will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 17th,
2016 also at the funeral home with visitation one hour prior to the service.
The Rev. Jose H. Lopez will officiate. Burial will take place in Barnum
Cemetery at Mayfield.
For those who would care to make a memorial contribution in Sharon's
memory, the family would suggest the American Cancer Society.
