Shary passed away peacefully October 21, 2025.
She was born October 22, 1936, in Traverse City, MI, the daughter of Ernest and Harriett (Townsend) Kellermann, and was raised in several states – Michigan, Ohio, Oklahoma, New Mexico and California -- returning to Lansing, MI where she attended Sexton High School, graduating in 1954. She received a BA in Elementary Education from Michigan State University in 1958, and taught periodically in both Missouri and Michigan.
Shary married her high school sweetheart, the late Charles David Carr, in the fall of 1957. Their union lasted 44 years, but Chuck, diagnosed with leukemia at 48, was taken from her in November 2001. She was the most excellent caregiver throughout his nearly 20-year illness.
Shary enjoyed spending time with family (especially her grandchildren) and friends. She was involved with the Lansing Junior League for many years, serving as bookkeeper for their thrift store, and was a former board member with Highfields, Inc., a social services organization providing opportunities to children, youth & families. She had a talent for creating beautiful and welcoming homes, and had a passion for fine art, well-made furniture and a well-stocked library. She appreciated a comfortable chair and a good book. She played tennis and golf in both couples' and women's leagues, and enjoyed her time spent at their homes in Lansing, Venice, Florida and the family cottage in west Michigan.
She leaves behind three children: Charles Stuart (Siobhan), Michael (Lori), and Cynthia. Grandchildren include Charles Leo, Courtney (Damen), Evelyn, Rachel, Leah (Philip), Sara (Aaron), and Emily. Great-grandchildren are Kylie, Avery, Paige, and Vincent. She so loved her children and grandchildren and took pride in their many accomplishments.
Shary was preceded in death by her siblings Theodore, Sara and Fritz. Remaining is her brother Landon and many nieces and nephews.
Her family sends their appreciation for the entire staff at Boardman Lake Glens' Highlander House and also Hospice of Michigan. We are grateful for their care throughout her stay and through her final days. Donations can be made to Highfields, Inc. in Onondaga, MI. Cremation has taken place, and the family is planning a memorial event in the spring of 2026.
