Sherry Kay Grant (Kevwitch) stepped into the arms of our Heavenly father on February 1, 2024. She was born May 22, 1955 to the late Alfred and Doris (Lautner) Kevwitch in Traverse City. She leaves behind her husband David, daughter Wendy, grandchildren Austin, Alyssa and Aiden, siblings Dennis and Linda Kevwitch, Kathy and John Naymick, Garry and Lou Kevwitch, numerous family, friends, and her precious pups, Spot and Dot.
She was a lifelong resident of Traverse City and graduated from Traverse City Senior High. She then worked at Blondies Restaurant for many years until she became legally blind.
She loved music, especially her album "Jesus Christ Superstar" (which David would have to listen to every Easter). Her flower garden was another favorite hobby and became her masterpiece. She would get on her hands and knees to pull the weeds, her face would be about 8 inches from the ground. Then she began pulling flowers out as her eyes got worse, so she had to quit her gardening.
Family and friends were a very important part of her life. She loved creating memories with those important to her. When Wendy was little, Sherry would make amateur movies with her, the cousins, and friend Sarah. With her grandchildren, they would get under a sheet with a flashlight and Sherry would make up scary stories. She had a great imagination.
She enjoyed going to the cabin on Lake Leelanau for swimming and bonfires. Also she would go to Fife Lake and get on the pontoon with her BFF's Connie, Judie, Susan, and Kathy. She loved yard sailing and having her own garage sales where she got to mingle with her neighbors. She was a great hostess having family dinners and reunions at her home.
Sherry prayed the rosary every night until she became ill. Every year we would go to the cemetery and put flowers on relatives' graves: a tradition she upheld for her father. She was loving, caring, and will be missed. Until later, when we meet you again in your garden.
In lieu of flowers, you can donate to St. Judes or Benzie Humane Society.
A gathering will be held at Reynolds Jonkhoff, February 9 2024 between 11:00 and 1:00. A light luncheon will be served. Afterwards a procession to Memorial Gardens will take place where she will be layed to rest.
