LAKE ANN — Sherry L. Hoeft lost her courageous battle with cancer Friday, July 23, at home surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born April 14, 1951, in Ypsilanti, to parents, Richard H. Hoeft and Rachel I. (McLaughlin) Hoeft. She graduated from Belleville High School in 1969.She married Frederick J. "Rick" Olmsted on April 12, 1978, in Benzonia. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Rick; daughters, Alisha and Salina Olmsted; future son-in-law, Noah Stearns, all of Lake Ann; brother, Dick Hoeft and his wife, Rosanne Arnowitz of Saline; parents, Richard and Rachel Hoeft, also of Saline; and best friend, Toni Krause of Coleman. A resident of Lake Ann since 1978, she was active in the community, supporting the Lake Ann Lakefront Park, and was an avid baker for the Almira Historical Society. She was a gifted graphic artist and sign painter, producing signs and posters for the organizations she supported. She served as PTO president while her children were in school. She also worked as a clerk at Lake Ann Grocery for several years. She was the art department for the Ypsilanti Press until 1976. Before that she was an office worker at Complete Auto Transit and a tour guide at Greenfield Village, where her father also worked. She loved her gardens, bird watching — particularly cardinals — and the other wildlife that frequented her gardens. She enjoyed crafting and sewing, creating costumes for events and work uniforms for her husband. Above all, she loved caring for her family and loved ones.A special thank you is extended to Toni Krause, and to Cyndie, Lynn and Heidi of Munson Hospice. Memorial donations may be made in Sherry's name to the Almira Township Lakefront Park. At Sherry's request, no services will be held at this time.
