Shirley Ann Bowen, 62, of Traverse City passed away Friday, April 8, 2016 at Munson Medical Center with her family by her side.
Shirley was born September 28, 1953 in Traverse City to Harold and Mildred (Johnston) Bowen. She graduated from Traverse City High School and attended Northwestern Michigan College. She worked at Chef Pierre for 21 years before retiring due to health related issues.
Shirley will be remembered for her caring and servant heart. She made a promise to her mother that she would be there to take of her so that she would never have to go to a retirement home. She did not have children of her own, but loved her nieces and nephews and enjoyed spoiling them. She was a master gardener and loved her flower and vegetable gardens. She also enjoyed crocheting. She was a member of the Buckley Old Engine Show and spent many years showcasing her old cast iron gasoline engines.
She is survived by her mother Mildred of Traverse City; Brothers Pete (Carla) Baatz of Thompsonville, Alan (Christine) Bowen of Williamsburg; nieces Emily (Rob) Henderson, Heather (Matthew) Hobbins; and nephews Evan Baatz, Cory (Malorie) Wenzel and Nicholas (Amanda) Wenzel, and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father Harold and her step-father Wilfred Baatz.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, April 12, 2016 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 2 p.m. Pastor Darren Brown will officiate.
