Obituary

Traverse City - Shirley Marie (Brown) Pritchard, 92, of Traverse City passed away July 10, 2013 at Munson Hospice House.

Shirley was born on August 2, 1920, in Denver, CO, to the late Ross Campbell and Julia Florence (Miner) Brown who lived until she was 105.

Shirley grew up in Colorado, Texas, Arizona, and California and later settled in Michigan when her father died in 1938 at age 55. She attended Detroit Business University and was hired at Chrysler Corporation in the Administration Office in 1939.

On June 6, 1942, Shirley married William Albert Pritchard in Detroit. Together they raised four children, William "Bill" Ross, Gary Edward, Robert "Bob" Alan, and Kathryn "Kay" Frances.

Shirley worked in the Post Office in Lake Leelanau for a short time and from July 1964 – July 1979, at the Traverse City Public Schools in the superintendent's office and substituted until 1988.Shirley volunteered for 33 years for Munson Medical Center Auxiliary beginning in January 1980. She served on the Board in many capacities and was president from 2001 - 2003. Shirley also served as legislative director for the Michigan Assoc. of Hospital Auxiliaries for two years.

In her spare time she enjoyed travelling around the world including Israel, England, France, her birth place in Colorado to climb the Rockies, and South Manitou Island for her 90th birthday.

Faith was very important to Shirley. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, served on the Liturgy Commission and was a Eucharistic Minister.

Above all else, family was the most important thing to Shirley. She had many "adoptive" children and grandchildren. There was more than enough room in her heart for everyone.

Shirley is survived by her sons William "Bill" (Faye) of Arlington, VA, Gary (Chuck Novak) of Rockford, Robert "Bob" (Atsuko Urita) of Kaneohe, HI, daughter Kathryn "Kay" (Dennis) Hall of Traverse City, grandchildren Jeffery (Vicki) Hall, Brian (Megan) Hall, Heather Hall, Marc (Brianna) Hall, Matthew Hall, Jennifer (Ozel) Hickman, Lilly (Carly Earnshaw) Pritchard, Alissa Pritchard, Lenora Pritchard, and Shion Pritchard, and 11 great grandchildren,

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband William in 1990, brother Kenneth Brown and sister Dorothy (Brown) Marionneaux.

Visitation for Shirley will be held on Sunday, July 14, 2013 from 2 until 5 pm with the rosary to be prayed at 5 pm at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 15, 2013 at 11:00 am with visitation held one hour prior at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Graveside services will follow at East Leland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Immaculate Conception, St. Mary's Lake Leelanau, or to Munson Medical Center Volunteer Auxillary.
