Shirley Ann Cook, age 87, formerly of Traverse City, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 28, 2023.
Shirley was born on July 18, 1936 to Thomas and Jessie (Kline) Powers in Pontiac. She married her high school sweetheart, Gerald (Jerry) Cook, on October 2, 1954. They celebrated 67 wonderful years together, residing in Traverse City and in Ocala, Florida.
Shirley was happiest when surrounded by people—family, friends, and potential friends. She loved hosting family dinners, card parties, and campground picnics. Shirley enjoyed RV travel with Jerry, especially making friends with other campers. She applauded and encouraged all of her grandchildren's academic and athletic achievements.
Over the years, her hobbies included cooking, crocheting, square dancing, spoiling her grandchildren and scrapbooking. Shirley enjoyed collecting cookbooks, cookie jars, teapots, salt and pepper shakers, and teddy bears.
Shirley was a long time member of The Journey Wesleyan Church.
Her precious grandchildren were most dear to her heart: Andrew (Lidoinet) Cook, Amelia (Andree) Alvarado, David (Lauren) Cook, Rebekah (Colin) Fowler, and darling great-granddaughter, Lidoinet Denali Cook.
Shirley was preceded in death by husband Jerry in 2021 and by son Douglas in 2022. Also predeceased are sister Jean (Glenn) Jackson, and brothers Edward and Richard. She is survived by her son, Gerald Jr. (Ellen) Cook, her grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation, designated to Hiland Cottage Hospice, for patient room and board.
A funeral service will be held October 14th at 11:00 a.m., with visitation at 10:30, at Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Please share your thoughts with the family at
