TRAVERSE CITY — Shirley R. Donovan, 74, of Old Mission, died Thursday, June 16, 2011, at Orchard Creek Skilled Nursing in Traverse City.Shirley was born Sunday, June 28, 1936. She was raised by her loving mother, Thelma Gooder. Shirley entered into marriage with David Donovan on Feb. 11, 1956.Shirley graduated from Central Michigan University and worked as an English teacher. She eventually put that aside to raise her three children. She loved spending time with friends and family, and will be missed dearly.Shirley is survived by her two sons, Kim Donovan, of Maple City, and Kurt (Cindy) Donovan, of Ypsilanti; daughter, Kristin Russell, of Harrison Township; five grandchildren, Carson, Ethan, Nolan, Dawson, Pierce; and many other loving family members and friends.Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, David, and her mother, Thelma Gooder.Memorial services will take place at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 23, with visitation one hour prior to the service at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to American Diabetes Association Research Foundation.Please view Shirley's online guestbook at www.reynolds-jonkhoff.com.The family is being served by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
