Shirley Buell Meteer, 82, of Maple City passed away Friday, May 16, 2014 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions with her loving husband at her side.
Shirley was born on January 17, 1932 in Okemos, MI to the late Henry and Cornelia (McManus) Buell. She married the love of her life, William Glenn Meteer, on May 19, 1951 in Bear Lake. Together, they raised a beautiful family of five children.
Shirley worked at the Traverse City State Bank in the commercial loan department prior to attending nursing school. After her schooling, she became an LPN and worked at Munson Medical Center for many years.
Quilting, baking, gardening, knitting, and spinning yarn from wool shorn from her own sheep brought great joy and relaxation to Shirley. She was a part of the 4H community and she educated many youngsters in raising lambs, quilting, and sewing. However, her family was most important to her. She will fondly be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.
Surviving Shirley is her husband of almost 63 years, William Glenn Meteer; children Pamela A.(Jerome) Peplinski of Maple City, Beth E. (Mark) Peplinski of Holland, MI, Patrick G. (Deborah) Meteer of Traverse City, Matthew B. (Karen) Meteer of Elmira, MI, Jo C. (Max) Wolfe of Traverse City; eleven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; siblings M. June (Gordon) Armstrong of Honor, MI, M. Jean (Don) Mickelsen of Pensacola, FL; and many other loving family members and friends.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents and siblings Robert (Joyce) Buell of Montague, MI, and S. Josephine (Elmer) Elwell of Winona, MN.
A Memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with a visitation beginning at 1pm. Inurnment will take place at the Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of one's choice.
