His addition to their family would be followed by siblings Michael Lammers (Lucy), Janie Garlow (Steve), and Jeffery Lammers (James McLaughlin). Sidney graduated from Union High School in 1948. He proved to be a standout athlete and accomplished scholar. After a short enlistment in the US Air Force he attended Michigan State University and later transferred to Central Michigan University to pursue his eventual bride to be, Beverly Carolyn Burkholder. They married in June of 1952. Sidney's work experiences took the family to many Michigan locations and 2 Chicago area locations until finally settling his family in Traverse City in 1968. Together they had five children: Sidney Gary Lammers III (Maria), Mary Elizabeth Goeb Wisner (Terry), Carol Lynn Ebright (Doug), Scott Wesley Lammers (Rhonda) and Nancy Kay Leach (Shane). Sidney is survived by his siblings, all his children, thirteen grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Sid was delighted to have the family together to celebrate his 86th birthday on December 23, 2016. In addition to enjoying time with his
family, Sid had a successful business career as owner and president of Normic Industries which he founded in 1968 and maintained until his retirement. Sid believed in community service and served on the TC School Board, the Board of Traverse City State Bank, chairman of the Michigan Small Business Association Board of Directors and he was president of the National Nameplate Association. In his later years Sid enjoyed reading his extensive first edition James Michener book collection, a drive along the Grand Traverse Peninsula and a good piece of apple pie with sharp cheddar cheese. After his divorce in 1993 Sid shared his life with Sue Alguire. His family will be forever grateful to Sue for her loving care and companionship. As the aging process progressed, Sid's needs became greater and Sue's commitment grew stronger. Sid's four local children maintained weekly lunch or breakfast dates with their dad which everyone recognized as so valuable and the highlight of his day. These outings often included a grandchild or two. On Monday, January 16, Sid passed away unexpectedly after a long, productive, and successful life. He will be missed greatly by those who loved him. At his request cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will take place at a later date. In Sid's memory we suggest you call a loved one and invite them to lunch.
