Obituary

Surrounded by family and friends, Sonia Jean Hall passed away Monday October 30th, 2017 at the age of 82.

Sonia was born in 1935 in Greenville MI, to Roy and June Brown. She worked in Grand Rapids much of her life at General Motors, later moving to Traverse City with her husband, Alvin Hall and eventually retiring to the Upper Peninsula near Germfask.

Sonia was fiercely independent; a single mom with strong work ethic, which she instilled in her three children. Witty and intelligent, she loved music, literature and art. She enjoyed drawing and painting portraits of her grandchildren and the landscape surrounding her home on the Big Manistique Lake. She was the orchestrator of family and fun, responsible for years of fond memories.

Sonia was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Hall, her parents, a sister Patricia Christensen, sister in law Judy Lyttinen, brother in law Mark Hall, and two great grandsons, Corin and Zeke Goodwin.

Sonia is survived by her children: Robert (Melinda) O'Leary of Columbus IN; Sonia (Gary) Clem of Frankfort, MI and Michelle (Marvin) Theile of Ocala Fl; Nine grandchildren: Jody (Norman) Mackey, Jesse (Rebecca) Clem, Jennifer (Brian) Sojka, Jessica (Chris) Lanning, Allison Clem, Sean (Briana) O'Leary, Paul (Olivia) Theile, Angela (Ernie) Skeans, Becky (Jeff) Goodwin, and 18 great grandchildren. Sonia is also survived by her sisters Victoria (Gary) St. Lawrence of Salisbury NC, and Andrea Packer of Greenville MI; two brothers, John Brown and Dennis Bigler, both of Grand Rapids MI, brother-in-law Marvin Christiansen of Lansing MI, brother in law Donald Hall of Henrietta MI, and brother in law Gary Lyttinen of Tapiola MI. She is also survived by numerous beloved nieces and nephews and her special friends, Jerry Swanson and Charlotte Wiard of Frankfort.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Christ Church, 430 Fair Street, Traverse City, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. A luncheon will be served following the service. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Township Cemetery in Kaleva, MI at 3pm.
