Sophia Bradley, 89, of Cedar, passed away July 15, 2016 at the Munson Hospice House surrounded by her family.
Sophia was born on October 20, 1926 to the late Adam and Mary (Kagan) Krawczyk in Eaton Rapids, MI. After graduating high school, Sophia worked as a cashier at Kroger's. While working there she studied hair styling at the Delmar Beauty School. She received her cosmetology license and was offered her first job at one of Bernard's Salons.
She met her husband William "Bill" Easom Bradley on a blind date. They were introduced because both had a love of driving race cars. They married on June 17, 1957 and lived in Redford Township raising two children, William "Scott" and Kathleen Ann.
She was active in Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, was a PTA Mom, a member of the MG Car Club, Sports Car Club of America, the Alfa Romeo Car Club, and participated in Gymkhana car races, especially those that were held on ice.
Being an avid gardener, she joined the Northwestern Garden Club of Detroit in 1972. Following her term as President, she moved to Cedar in 1978 and transferred her garden club membership to The Friendly Garden Club, acting as President from 1986 to 1987. She played an instrumental part in the creation of the Open Space Logo Garden in Traverse City.
She is survived by her children, Kathleen (Denny) Shorter and William "Scott" (Trina Spence) Bradley; sister, Mary (Rhon) Pierce; brothers, Stanley Krawczyk, Adam Krawczyk; step-daughter, Patricia Iler; grandchildren Lea (Luke) Byron, Larissa Bradley, Alanna Bradley, Jennifer (Matthew) Fisher, Ronald Iler; and great-grandchild, Matthew Fisher.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Wanda, Anne and Dolores; and brothers, John, Bill, Ted and Henry.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
