Sophia Yack, 101, of Traverse City passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at her home. Sophia was born on April 4, 1913 in Buckley to the late Bernard and Stella (Olszewski) Sarski. She was married to Herbert G. Yack on November 18, 1930 in Hannah. He predeceased her on July 26, 1979. She had been employed with Traverse City Provision Company for over 18 years. Sophia loved spending time with her family she also enjoyed crocheting and was a sharp euchre player. Sophia was very active in the Traverse City Senior Center.

Sophia is survived by a daughter, Arlene Yack, a son, Gary Yack, a brother, John (Faye) Sarski, grandchildren; Cynthia Howard, Scott Coates, Susan (Mike) Dost, Bob Yack, Tammy Yack, Cynthia Pelzilla, Garvin (Kelly) Yack and William Yack; great-grandchildren; Shane Wilkes, Brandon Wilkes, and Magdalena Coates; great-great-grandchildren; Autumn, Gabriel, Grace, Lilly, Amber and Luxi.

She was preceded in death by two sons; Robert H. Yack and Marvin G. Yack, grandson, Ronald Yack, a great-great-grandson Elijah, four brothers; Alex, August, Barney and Norman and five sisters; Esther, Helen, Frances, Agnes and Angeline.

Sophia family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caring staffs of Hospice of Michigan including; Betty, Edna, Jessica, Jackie, Laura and Kathy also the Commission on Aging; Susan and Christine.

Friends are welcome to visit with Sophia's family on Friday, April 25, 2014 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the funeral home, with visiting one hour prior to service. Pastor Ronald Folkersam will officiate.
