In Loving Memory of Sophie Anne Stanton, 2009-2024
Our sweet Sophie came to us as the most precious gift on December 6, 2009. She was
such a happy baby with a smile on her face and a song in her heart. Sophie's life was
her stage. Her heart's desire was to bring joy to those around her with song and dance
and just pure craziness sometimes. She was known by those close to her as a sassy,
coffee-loving girl, who's always ready to perform. It's no coincidence that her initials
spell "SAS."
Sophie grew up in the Traverse City, MI area with her parents Jimmy and Rachel
Stanton and her siblings Chloe, Lily, Levi and her bonus brother Jephte Jean-Claude
with his new beautiful wife Ariana. Sophie loved spending her summers on the beach,
playing games and watching all the classic musicals.
Sophie danced into heaven on May 20, 2024, after a year-long battle with leukemia.
She is reunited with her Grami Pam Stanton and many great grandparents. Her
strength, courage, and grace has touched and impacted us all. God has been with us in
profound ways and there is so much beauty in the pain. In the end, the two expected
days at home turned into ten with many blessings along the way.
Sophie will be joyfully remembered by her grandparents Dave & Sue Flemming and her
Papi Jim Stanton; her aunts and uncles Aaron & Nicole Coulter, Sharalee & Bryan
Moore and Isaac Flemming & Kristen Mills; and her special cousins Robbie & Aimee,
Cole, Ketlove, Wisler, Mariah, Nathan, Tristen and Luke.
We can't thank the exceptional team at Helen Devos Children's Hospital enough for
their immense care and love for Sophie and our family. Special thank you to Dr.
Cornelius, Dr. Duffner, Dr Quigg, Sarah (Team RN), and countless phenomenal nurses,
for all you've done! We believe that Sophie's light will always shine in your hearts.
Living Hope Church, Traverse City Christian School, Calvary Bible Chapel, and the rest
of our beautiful community we thank you from the depths of our hearts! Your prayers,
your donations, your care, they sustained us. Because of you we were able to spend
this precious last year of Sophie's life by her side.
Sophie loved the arts and had a passion for theater. She enjoyed being a part of Light
House Center for the Arts and was involved in several of their productions but missed
out on many shows because of her illness. Light House and all the wonderful people
involved were so close to her heart. Please consider a donation to Light House Center
for the Arts to help us keep Sophie's bright light shining. Your generous donations will
enable Light House to build new programs and fund the "Sophie Stanton Scholarship" to
enable children who can't afford the program the chance to have the opportunities
Sophie is no longer afforded.
Please join us for Sophie's celebration of life service this Saturday, May 25th at New
Hope Community Church located at 5100 Bethesda Ct, Williamsburg, MI 49690. We will
have a visitation from 11am - 11:50am and the service will begin at 12pm. Directly
following the service, we invite you to join us at Living Hope Church for a Luncheon
located at 3050 W South Airport Rd, Traverse City, MI 49684.
