WILLIAMSBURG — Stanley "Jim" Edward Malaski Jr, 72, of Williamsburg, passed away at his home with his family by his side on June 6, 2015.
Stanley was born on Jan. 14, 1943 in Detroit to the late Stanley Edward and Marjorie (DeKett) Malaski.
Stanley was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, teacher and friend. He grew up in Black River, and graduated from Alcona High School in 1961. On May 12, 1967, Stanley married Judith A. Corbeill, his wife of 48 years in Whitewater, Wisconsin.
Stanley moved to Traverse City in 1967 where he taught at Oak Park Elementary for 31 years and retired in 1998. He was an active member of Faith Reformed Church and the Grand Traverse Hiking Club. In his spare time, he liked to volunteer as an usher at Interlochen events. He enjoyed coaching elementary sports, and was also active with MEA-R (an education retirement group). He favorite past times were trout fishing, camping, and gardening.
Stanley is survived by his wife Judith; son, Michael (Cary) of Spring Lake; daughter, Melinda (Hugh) Hardin of Pacific Grove, California; grandchildren, Hunter and Owen Malaski, Lillian and Alden Hardin; brother, Mark (Carolyn) Malaski, of Flushing.
Visitation will be held on Tues, June 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Wed. June 10 at 11 a.m. at Faith Reformed Church, with visitation held one hour prior.
Memorial contributions in memory of Stanley may be directed to Soaring Unlimited, a Christian Based Charity in Haiti and Faith Reformed Church "Missions Fund," and to the Heartland Hospice Services of Traverse City, 4020 Copper View, Traverse City, MI 49684.
