Obituary

TRAVERSE CITY - Stanley A. "Stan" Hornacek, 85, of Lake Leelanau passed away peacefully on Friday, May 9, 2014 at Munson Hospice House. Stan was born on May 28, 1928 in Beaver Falls, PA to the late Victor and Anna (Sadler) Hornacek. He was married to his loving wife of 63 years Janet Oswald on December 2, 1950. Stan proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a talented football player and played a year at Alma College. He had been employed as a salesman for Continental Coffee Company. In 1969 Stan become the owner of Round's Restaurant. At the restaurant, Stan always greeted the costumers with a smile, he was happy go lucky and always took the time to talk to people and truly enjoyed listening to their stories. He was a former president of the Exchange Club. Stan was a charter member of the Northwest Chapter of the Model A Club. He had a passion for old cars, taking many a drives and tours around the state. In his youth Stan played bass in a band performing at many dances. Above all spending time with his family and friends, whether playing golf, trout fishing or traveling, was Stan's greatest joy.

Stan is survived by his wife, Janet, two sons and a daughter; Stanley (Vicki) Hornacek, Jr., Toni (Kevin) Whiting and David (Kim) Hornacek; eight grandchildren, Spencer Hornacek, Mike (Leah) Hornacek, Ethan Hornacek, Candice (Brett) Munroe, Chelsea Whiting, Seth Whiting, Alex Whiting and Natalie Hornacek, and a great-granddaughter, Anna Holland Hornacek. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Verna Hornacek.

Stan was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Hornacek.

A memorial service honoring Stanley will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Friends are welcome to visit on Tuesday one hour prior to the service.
