TRAVERSE CITY — Stefan Thomas Schofield, 19, of Traverse City, became an angel in heaven on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012. Born Aug. 21,1992, in Traverse City, he was the loving son of Thomas Ray and Ann Elizabeth (Tortellet) Schofield.He graduated from St. Francis High School with the class of 2011. While in school he participated in track, golf, cross country and basketball. This last fall he furthered his education by attending Northwestern Michigan College with plans to transfer later to a larger university.In addition to being an avid sportsman, he also enjoyed longboarding and snowboarding.Stefan always looked forward to his fishing trips to Florida with his dad. The special times he spent with his mom and sister were also treasured.He had a beautiful life and will be fondly remembered for his soft and kind heart as well as his artistic and creative mind. Stefan will be greatly missed.In addition to his parents, Stefan is also survived by his sister, Janelle Schofield; paternal grandfather, Robert (Nancy) Schofield, of Greenville; maternal grandparents, Richard and Sandra Tortellet, of Grand Rapids; aunts and uncles, John and Carrie Schofield, of Ada, Julie and Stefan Swartzmiller and Michelle and Kevin Mehring, all of Madison, Wis., Kathy and Brian Trapp and Sarah and Larry Maple, all of Rockford; along with many cousins.He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Marlene Schofield.Funeral services will be held at New Hope Community Church, 5169 Bethesda Court, Williamsburg, on Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at 2 p.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Craig Trierweiler will officiate. Graveside services with burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery for his immediate family. In remembrance of Stefan, memorials may be directed to the Traverse City Junior Golf Association.
