Stephen Carter Buchan, 61, passed away peacefully Monday, March 6, 2017 at Munson Medical Center.
Stephen was born on Monday, August 1, 1955 in Traverse City to the late John and Dorothy (Henschell) Buchan. Stephen left school during his junior year and worked at Cone Drive so that he could financially help out his mother. He did finish school later and earned his GED. In 1979, he moved to Houston with his brother Tom and good friend David Popa. He worked various jobs in the Houston area and in 1983 he moved back to Traverse City.
Stephen will be remembered as a hard worker, a loyal friend and someone that you could count on to be there for you. He worked the last 28 years at Brown Lumber, now Northern Lumber, in Traverse City. He was a passionate fan of all the Detroit sporting teams, but the Red Wings were his favorite. Stephen loved trips to Hawaii, boating, spending time at his favorite beach at the end of Old Mission Peninsula and especially enjoyed his walks around Traverse City. He wore out pair after pair of shoes because of his long walks exploring the city of Traverse.
He is survived by his brothers Tom Buchan of Traverse City and Barry (Cindy) Buchan of Traverse City and close maternal cousins Bob Denoyer and Mark Henschell.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Dorothy (Henschell) Buchan and brother J.W. Buchan.
