Stephen "Steve" Holgate Read
Bloomfield Hills – Stephen H. Read, 70, of Bloomfield Hills passed away July 7, 2018 unexpectedly while on vacation with his wife in Glen Arbor.
Steve was born on February 24, 1948 in Pontiac Michigan to the late Franklin Brockway and Dorothea (Snavely) Read and was preceded in death by his brothers Russell and Brock.
Steve married Renee LaFontaine (better known as Mom, it was the best decision he ever made) at St. Andrews in Bloomfield Hills over 36 years ago!
Steve attended Kemper Military school and graduated from Eastern Michigan University (talk about a man with some remarkable stories!)
He was an amazing entrepreneur who lived life to the fullest and enjoyed traveling the world with his family creating great memories!
In his free time, he enjoyed reading, playing golf, boating and enjoying a great cigar! He also had a passion for fast cars and drove an impressive collection over his lifetime…he had great taste!
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Renee; two sons and their wives Jason & Annie Read and Ryan & Anna Read; grandchildren Logan, Danielle & Kevin Hawley, Lindsey, and Christian; and great grandchildren Riley and Colt Hawley.
His fun-loving nature was his signature! Steve always went above and beyond to make whatever he was doing more memorable for all those blessed to be in his presence including putting on an amazing firework show on the beach with his family!
Steve was a great husband, father, mentor, friend, businessman & philanthropist! He was well loved and looked up to by his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all! If you ever want to remember him just pull up a chair to watch a sunset, grab a cigar, a good drink and just smile knowing he will be by your-side!
The memorial service celebrating Steve's life will be held on July 19th, 2018 at 11am at the Kirk in the Hills in Bloomfield Hills Michigan. A luncheon will take place following the service at Pine Lake Country Club.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Steve's honor may be directed to Beyond Basics or Westside Christian Academy.
