Stephen "Steve" Joseph Rehmann, 60, of Traverse City passed away June 1, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving wife and children after a courageous five-year battle with cancer.
Steve was born February 26, 1956 in Saginaw, MI to Jack and Constance (Bader) Rehmann. He attended St. Thomas Aquinas grade school and graduated from St. Peter and Paul Catholic High School. He spent several years after high school managing stores for Don Luplow's Auto Supply. He later attended Northwood Institute, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Business and Marketing Management.
Steve married Susan Greyerbiehl on May 29, 1982 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hemlock, MI, with the bagpipes leading them through the church. Some years later, they settled down in an 1889 farmhouse in Traverse City where they started a family. Steve enjoyed caring for the land, his flowers, and the farm.
He will be remembered as a loving husband and a devoted father to his wife and four sons. His family was his passion. As an Eagle Scout, Steve was very proud of all his boys who also spent time in the scouts.
He loved the woods and water. His favorite pastime was fishing, enjoying trips to Florida with his family and fishing off shore for sharks or whatever would bite his line. He and his sons were determined to figure out what lead and line would finally bring in the mystery fish off Sanibel, and with great determination one of his boy's finally landed the shark.
He was also a gifted pianist and recently took to learning the violin. He was intelligent, always having the right answer to every question, albeit with sarcastic wit. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a deep laugh. Steve was a tireless, hard worker, who started his own automotive distribution warehouse, Grand Traverse Undercar, in December of 1994.
Steve is survived by his wife Susan Rehmann; sons Levi Rehmann of Ann Arbor, Luke Rehmann of Ann Arbor, Jack Rehmann of Traverse City, James Rehmann of Traverse City; father and mother Jack and Constance Rehmann of Saginaw; and brothers Christopher and Rolawn Rehmann of Knoxville, TN, James and Jennifer Rehmann of Redding, CA, David and Susan Rehmann of Vancouver, WA, and Daniel and Mary Rehmann of Portland, OR.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with a rosary being said at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis Church on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 11 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Father Ken Stachnik will officiate services.
