Obituary

Steven Harry Sanborn, loving husband, brother, father and grandfather, died peacefully December 13, 2021 after a short hospitalization and courageous 10 year battle with Dementia. He was 59.

Steve was born in Argentia, Newfoundland, Canada on June 21, 1962 while his father Harry Franklin Sanborn and mother Jeanne LaRue Sanborn were stationed there during his father's service in the United States Coast Guard. Both his parents preceded him in death.

Steve is survived by and was the loving husband to Lee Ann Sanborn, brother of Susan (Ted) Bready and the devoted father to Jamie (Brad) Schichtel and Amber (Josh) Turner. He was the proud grandfather to Brayden, Gavin, and Jessica Schichtel and Brady, Kennedy and J.J. Turner.

Steve grew up in Traverse City after living briefly in both Virginia and Hawaii during his father's military service. As a youngster, Steve was always full of excess energy and managed to get into plenty of shenanigans. He put all that energy to good use when he learned the skilled trade of drywall at an early age. He went on to successfully co-own Drywall Dynamics for 7 years before selling it upon his retirement. Steve loved to watch Detroit Tiger baseball with his dad Harry. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. He loved rabbit hunting with his Beagle dogs June 1 and June 2 and shared his skills of deer hunting with his daughter Amber and grandsons. Steve made family time a top priority in his life and took many memorable family trips to NASCAR events, snowmobiling in the UP, where he loved to go full throttle and ice-skip when the weather was right as well as boating in the summertime on the local lakes. He appreciated older cars and owned and restored a Dodge SuperBee as well as his grandfather's Nissan 300ZX. He also enjoyed horseback riding and target shooting with his wife Lee Ann and shared her love of dogs and animals.

Arrangements are being made with Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. A memorial and celebration of life will be held on June 17, 2022 at the Elmwood Township Hall in the Cherrybend Pavilion at 6 pm.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Greater Michigan Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association https://www.alz.org/gmc .
