Obituary

Sue Elaine Loomis, 88 of Traverse City, passed away peacefully, Monday, October 7, 2019 at Grand Traverse Pavilions.

Sue was born on Monday, April 20,1931 to the late George and Ruth(Israel) Wright in Eldon, IA
She grew up in Clio, Mi but spent many summers and one full school year in Eldon, with her grandparents, Ira and Madge Israel.
In Clio she met Russell (Russ) H. Loomis where they became sweethearts and married Sunday, Sept. 7, 1952 in Eldon. They were married for 59 wonderful years prior to Russ' death in April of 2011.

Sue and Russ lived in Traverse city since 1967, having moved here from Muskegon and previously Erie, MI. Presently, Sue lived at Hawthorne Cottage GTP where she had many friends. She was an active member of the Order of Eastern Star, serving in several capacities including Past Worthy Matron, Secretary for many years, State Representative to Kentucky and Mother Advisor, Order of Rainbow for Girls numerous years.

Having worked in the office for Chevrolet and as a substitute teacher, she spent the majority of her working career employed by the Secretary of State office in Traverse City, retiring in 1996. In October of 2012, Sue married Bill Lutz and he preceded her in death in 2013.

Sue was a long time member of Central United Methodist Church; was a member of the United Methodist Women and volunteered at Munson Hospital. Sue enjoyed teaching children in Sunday School, enjoyed gardening in her many flower gardens and spending time with her family.

Surviving Sue are her children, R. Charles (Patricia) Loomis of Tucson, AZ, Virginia S. (Andy) Kelly of Traverse City, Julie E. (John) Grumley of Maple City; grandchildren, David (Daisy) Loomis, Jennifer(Richard) Osborne, Sarah (Matt) Nelson, Lauren (Jeff) Tondreau, Aaron (Brittany) Kelly, Tucker and Madeline Grumley; 7 great grandchildren: Camryn, Andrew, Logan, Adam, William, Tristan and Emma, a sister-in-law Joanne Wright and the extended Loomis family. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Russ, a brother C.Jay Wright and a great granddaughter Claire.

A time to celebrate Sue's life will begin at 2p.m. Friday, Nov. 15 at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial of her urn will take place at a later time at Linwood Cemetery in Long Lake Township.
