Obituary

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - Susan Elizabeth Beck passed away on December 3, 2013 at Munson Hospice House.
She was born August 10, 1941 in Traverse City to Sanford L. Mead, Sr. and Frances E. (Duncan) Mead. The Mead Family descendants have resided on Old Mission Peninsula since 1910. Susan was a 1959 graduate of Central High School and also attended Northwestern Michigan College where she met her husband of 52 years, Gary Theodore Beck.
Susan grew up a "Navy Brat" living in Virginia, Texas, California, Hawaii and Japan finally returning to Traverse City in her late teen years. She was a stay at home mom and she volunteered in the early years as a Girl Scout troop leader, was active in the Old Mission School PTA and was a fund raiser for the Cherryland Humane Society. Later she worked full time in the mortgage lending industry until retirement. After retiring she and Gary traveled throughout the Baja of Mexico and the southwest by RV and spent many happy winters in the 10,000 Islands of the Everglades and exploring the beaches and fishing in Texas and Alabama. Summers were always spent and enjoyed at home in Traverse City.
She never sat still for long having many hobbies and working on many arts and craft projects. She loved the outdoors camping, birding and fishing throughout her life. She loved board games, was a fierce domino player (never sit on her left) and an excellent, lifelong bridge player.
Susan is survived by her husband, Gary T. Beck, her daughters Kathleen H. (Timothy D.) McCullen of Kalkaska, MI, Kareen E. (John R.) Latoski of Mt. Pleasant, MI and 3 grandchildren, Kelsey (Thomas) Thompson, Tyler McCullen and Julian Latoski.
At her request, there will be no visitation or service. Cremation has taken place and a family and friend memorial picnic will be held this summer.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family for the "Hillacres" Memorial Fund for future maintenance of the family cemetery, to Munson Hospice House or the Cherryland Humane Society.

Kindly share your memories with the family on their online guest book at www.reynolds-jonkhoff.com
