Susan Jane Wilson 74, of Benzie and Leelanau County, passed away July 15, 2023 at home with her loving family at her side.

Susan was born July 16, 1948 in Massillon, Ohio to the late Ralph and Gloria (Parra) Scharver. After graduating from high school she continued her education graduating with a degree in mathematics from West Texas State University. While in college she met and fell in love with William Vance Wilson and the two were happily married June 15,1970 in Amarillo, Texas.

Susan and Van loved to sail and kayak and especially loved to travel. They enjoyed many trips in the United States as well as to the Caribbean and some special trips to Europe. After leaving her corporate job in Chicago as an actuary the couple moved to Leelanau County where they opened and operated a bed and breakfast country inn for eighteen years. Susan was a gourmet cook and she loved meeting and entertaining guests from all over the world. She created the most amazing meals and was a superb host. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Susan is survived by her husband Van of 53 wonderful years, her siblings, Dean (Barb) Scharver, Crystal (Tom) James, her sister-in-law Sandy (Beth Wasmer) Wilson, her beloved fur baby Brodie, and many other loving family members and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 10am on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at the Glen Lake Community Reformed Church with a visitation held one hour prior. Memorial contributions may be made to Glen Lake Community Church, Alala Kenya Mission, 4902 MacFarlane Rd. Glen Arbor, Mi 49636 and to our church's mission efforts in Africa.
