Sylvester Odell Penney, 96 of Elmwood Township, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 16, 2012. He passed away at Munson Hospice House where the family appreciated the great care Hospice provides.
Sylvester was born on July 24, 1915 in Midland County to the late George L. and Millie Marie (Draves) Penney. He married Delphine Wisneskie who passed away in 1982. Surviving are their sons, Dennis L (Mary) and Robert L. "Bob" Penney, grandchildren Dwaine and Darin (Debbie) Penney, great grandsons Hunter and Sean, brother Edward Penney, and many nephews and nieces.
Sylvester is survived by his second wife Glenna, whom he loved dearly and also surviving are his step-sons David G. (Leana) Krause, grandchildren Keegan and Jessica, and step-son Brent L. Pennell.
Sylvester was drafted in 1944 and he served our country in the Army Air Corp during WWII in Germany.
Sylvester lived in Owosso where he had a paint store. He then moved to his farm on the Old Mission Peninsula.
Sylvester liked everyone and he was well liked. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family.
Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will take place at 11am on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with a visitation held one hour prior memorial. The Rev. Monsignor Edwin A. Thome will officiate.
Burial will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Munson Hospice House or St. Joseph Catholic Church. The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Please sign Sylvester's online guestbook at
