Thea Patricia Haaren, 67, of Central Lake, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2023 with her loving family at her side.
Thea was born on September 24, 1955 in Westchester County to Thomas and Patricia (O'Connor) Haaren. She had a beautiful home in Smithtown, New York, where she grew up and raised her own family. She built a gorgeous home in Florida, where she resided for over 20 years, before moving to Northern Michigan, surrounded by gorgeous lakes, sunsets, farms and her art.
Thea had an exciting and fulfilling life with several great loves. Thea was an artist who attended Moore College of Art, owned art galleries and collected art from around the world. She loved to travel, volunteer as an activist, watch her soap operas (especially Young and The Restless!) and, most importantly, she loved spending time with her family - especially her four grandchildren.
She was a wonderful mother, Gaga and friend.
She was fun loving and always down for a road-trip - especially out west to Sedona. The last years of her life were filled with road-trips, flying to fun places and living life to the max. Enjoying delicious meals. Watching the sun set over Grand Traverse Bay. Watching out for exciting wildlife, such as eagles, elk, raccoons, porcupines, deer and even a bear or two! Her nemesis was a fiesty red squirrel living in her attic.
Thea will be missed forever by all those who loved her.
Thea is survived by her daughters Phoebe (Christian) Hopps, Chloe (Matt) Carpenter, grandchildren, Olivia, Madison, Benjamin and Matthew Jr., her mother Patricia Haaren, her siblings, Meryl Haaren and Thomas (Elizabeth) Haaren and many other loving family members and friends.
She is preceded in death by her dad Thomas.
Thea fought Stage 4 Breast Cancer for over a year - and if she was here today she would remind you to get your annual checkups and take good care of your health.
Thea's Funeral Services will take place on Wednesday, April 11, 2023 at 1:30pm with a visitation beginning at 12:30 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. There will be a celebration of her life this summer on Long Island, New York. Memorial contributions may be directed to her family for a memorial bench. Please visit
