Obituary

TRAVERSE CITY — Thelma Genevieve Crawford passed away on July 2, 2010, at the age of 90. Born Thelma MacLean, in Flint, Thelma married the love of her life, Wilbur Vincent Crawford in 1940. They raised their family in the Detroit/Ann Arbor area before moving to Traverse City in 1975. As a member of the Ninety-nines, an international flying club, Thelma won second place in the Michigan Powder Puff Derby. As artist, world traveler and lifelong volunteer, Thelma donated her time, energy and talents to several organizations, including Munson Hospital, Grand Traverse Humane Society, The Old Mission Women's Club and Old Mission Peninsula United Methodist Church. Thelma was well known for her generous spirit in opening her heart and home to so many. An active member of Old Mission United Methodist Church, Thelma enjoyed Bible Study and love of the Lord. Preceded in death by her beloved Bill, Thelma is survived by her four children, Thomas (Monica) Crawford, Bonnie (Roger) Ostrander, Kathy (Harry) Hopkinson and Nancy (Gary) McRay; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, at noon, at Old Mission United Methodist Church, 16426 Center Road, Traverse City. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. A special thank you is extended to her caregivers at Sunrise for all their loving attention in her final days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Old Mission Women's Club, PO Box, Old Mission, MI 49673, in memory of Thelma.
