Obituary

ACME — Thelma B. Murray, 90, of Acme, died Friday at Bortz Health Care. She was born on June 9, 1911, in Empire, the daughter of Edwin and Ida Gould. As a young girl the family relocated to Muskegon. She married Harry G. Murray on Sept. 28, 1945, in Muskegon Heights. Harry's business took them to Dallas, Texas, and Fort Smith, Ark., where Thelma was always the consummate hostess. Returning to the Traverse City area (Williamsburg), they purchased the A.W. Rickerd Monument Co. in 1969, running it together until 1985. During that time, they moved to Acme. Harry preceded her in death on Jan. 30, 1994.She was a longtime member of the Traverse City Elks Lodge and Daisy Chain. An avid bridge player, her group met monthly for many years. Her warmth, good cheer and love of life will be greatly missed by all.Surviving are nieces and nephews, Floy Defer, of Traverse City, Denece Kost, of Friday Harbor, Wash., Marilyn Bucec, of Washington, Mich., Norma Jean Blum, of Macomb, Wayne Clark, of Ravenna, and Nelson Clark, of West Columbia, S.C.; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Mary Christopher, Martha Helfrich and Marvel Clark; two brothers, Victor Gould and Charles Gould; and a niece, Wilma Malarik.Cremation has taken place. An announcement will be made in the spring regarding interment services. Interment will be at Mona View Cemetery in Muskegon. Memorials may be directed to a charity of choice.The family is being served by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
