Thomas Frederick Bielman, age 88, of Traverse City, passed away on December 22, 2025. He was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to Frank J. and Evelyn (Shields) Bielman. In August of 1968, he married Julianne C. Scharbat, with whom he shared a devoted life together.

Tom proudly served in the United States Navy, traveling throughout Asia and the South Pacific. Following his military service, he attended Eastern Michigan University, where he graduated as an electronic engineer.

A lifelong inventor and craftsman, Tom was known for both large- and small-scale projects. Among his many contributions, he sewed thousands of masks, capes, and port covers for the local hospital, created sewn items for children in need in Africa, developed a patented gun lock, and crafted bulletproof judges' benches for the county. His favorite personal project, however, was restoring his beloved Model T.
Tom's diverse work history included high-rise construction, mining, restoring the Big Bay Lighthouse, working for Grand Traverse County, and owning the Big Bay Trading Company in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, as well as Nawbin Beads and Artifacts in Traverse City.

Never one to miss a conversation, Tom could spend hours talking with anyone around him. He especially loved bragging about his grandchildren, who were by his side when he passed. The family would like to thank the caregivers and medical staff who provided compassion and support during his final days.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Frank J. Bielman.

He is survived by his loving wife, Julianne; his siblings, Mary Ann (Edward) May, Margaret (Phillip) Smith, Evelyn (Michael) Burns, and Ricci (Frank) Dawson; his children, Karl (Sarah) Bielman, Kathryn (Brian) Caughell, and Michael Bielman; and his cherished grandchildren, Ainsley R. Bielman and Augustus T. Bielman.
