Traverse City - Thomas Lakies, 71, of Traverse City died peacefully at his home Friday, May 11, 2012.

Thomas was born on February 16, 1941 in Wayne to the late Gerald and Marion (Cellner) Lakies.

Thomas enlisted with the United States Navy at the beginning of the Vietnam Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1964.

On March 27, 1965 he married the former Cheryl Morgan. Together they have shared 47 wonderful years of marriage.

Thomas was a branch manager for several banks prior to his retirement. In his spare time he loved to go fishing with his buddy Mike Huey, watch the Detroit Lions, and spend time with his friends and family. He also enjoyed watching the sunset in Indian Rock Shores, Florida, where he went every year for spring vacation. He had a fun sense of humor and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Thomas is survived by his wife Cheryl, daughter Sheila, son Jeff (Jenni), grandchildren Allison and Seth, sister Susan Terzaghi, brother-in-law Basil (Terri) Morgan, and many nieces and nephews. Thomas is also survived by his beloved pets Sierra, Simba and Jake.
