Thomas Patrick Witkowski, 84, lifelong resident of Cedar, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at Munson Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
Tom was born on March 18, 1940, at home on his family's farm in Cedar, Michigan, to the late Thomas Edward and Catherine (Skipski) Witkowski. After graduating from Holy Rosary School in 1958, Tom served our country in the United States Army from 1958 to 1963 and continued in the Reserves for over 10 years.
While attending a dance in Traverse City, Tom met the love of his life, Barbara Irene Martinson. They married on August 31, 1963, at Saint Michael's Catholic Church in Suttons Bay, Michigan, and together raised two children, Delores and Daniel.
Tom's career led him to work at the state hospital and, after its closure, he went to work for the Department of Transportation in Cedarville, Cadillac and Kalkaska areas. He particularly enjoyed the later years of his career, driving a plow truck and ensuring the roads were clear and safe. He enjoyed working, keeping busy and never sitting still.
In his spare time, Tom was an avid dancer. He and Barbara attended countless dances at St. Rita's, forming cherished friendships along the way. Tom also enjoyed going to the casino and took great pride in his yard, spending hours mowing and caring for his land.
Tom's warmth, dedication, and love for his family and community will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Barb of 61 devoted years, his daughter Delores Witkowski and his son Daniel "Dan" Witkowski, grandsons, Tristen and Turner Witkowski, his brother George Witkowski, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Frances and Estella.
Per Tom's wishes no services will be held. His+ family is being cared for by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
