Thomas Bell Woodworth—obituary

Dr. Thomas B. (Tom) Woodworth died on October 3, 2024. Tom was born on September 28, 1943 in Junction City Kansas to Thomas L. & Mary J. Woodworth. He grew up in Birmingham, Michigan, and graduated from Ernest W. Seaholm High School in 1961.Tom was a 1965 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut and then attended the University of Michigan Medical School, graduating in 1969. During the Vietnam War, Tom served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, achieving the rank of Major. Tom enjoyed a 40-year medical career, first in private practice in Fayetteville, North Carolina and later in occupational medicine with Dow Chemical and General Motors, and served as President of the Michigan Occupational and Environmental Medicine Association (MOEMA). He retired to Traverse City in 2017 with his loyal and devoted wife, Inga Nyquist. Tom enjoyed sailing, skiing, travel, reading, and supporting the University of Michigan Wolverines. In addition to Inga, Tom is survived by his brother Fred Woodworth (Anne) of Washington, D.C.; children Steve Woodworth (Kristin) and Laura Keohane (Jonathan); stepchildren Tim Nyquist (Laura), John Nyquist (Linda) and Lisa Flood, and five grandsons: Caleb W. & Thomas Edwin (Teddy) Woodworth, and Michael B., Isaac P. and Jacob Woodworth Keohane. A service will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Traverse City on October14, 2024 at 11:00am, with interment at the Woodworth family cemetery in Caseville, Michigan at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Michigan or Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Traverse City, MI.
