Obituary

Timothy Michael Gies, age 33, of Traverse City, passed away unexpectedly to be with the Lord, finding peace from his battle with alcoholism.

He was born on March 21, 1990, in Traverse City, Michigan, to loving parents Timothy and Maureen (Haley) Gies. Tim graduated from Traverse City Central High School in 2008, marking an important milestone in his life.

Throughout his life, Tim worked in various career paths but most of his time was spent in restaurants in the area, leaving behind friends and co-workers at places like State Street Grill, Paesano's, Domino's, and most recently Subway.

His loved ones knew him to have a contagious laugh, bright smile, and a unique quirky sense of humor that most of his best friends and family would understand most. He was one of the kindest souls and cherished the relationships he had throughout his life. He had an ongoing passion for video gaming with his friends and was an avid fan of NHL hockey. He had a special affinity for watching the Red Wings play each season and had vast knowledge as to who the upcoming years lineup would include with predictions as to how they would perform and who he thought would take the cup. He eagerly anticipated the upcoming year to cheer on his Wings. In his younger years, he enjoyed sports such as snowboarding, snowmobiling, playing hockey and bike riding. He also found solace and joy in being outside in nature with God, gardening and taking great pleasure in watching plants flourish.

In 2017, Tim and his partner Amelia welcomed their son Jasper into the world. Tim loved him so much and he was his greatest joy in life. Tim was a loving and fun daddy and wanted nothing but the best for Jasper and will forever love him and continue to watch over him. Many of their cherished memories include watching hockey together, playing soccer outside, sitting around a bonfire, going for walks, and anything monster truck related.

Tim is survived by his loving son Jasper; his loving parents, Tim and Maureen; his cherished sister, Jenny (Garrett) Thompson; his niece Leah; his grandparents Iris (Larry Prout) Street, Wilda Street, Barbara Gies; his partner, Amelia Thompson; and Amelia's parents, Susan and Jeffery Thompson. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends who held a special place in his heart.

He is preceded in death by his niece, Olivia Thompson, and his grandparents, Jerry Gies, Tom Street, Michael and Joan Haley.

Timothy will be remembered for his love, his passions, and the incredible mark he left on the lives of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in our hearts forever.

A Celebration in honor of Tim's life will be held at 11am on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at the family's beloved Kensington Church with a visitation held one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Tim's honor may be directed to his beloved son, Jasper, to support his future. Those wishing to mail in contributions can mail them to: Jasper Gies c/o Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 6th Street, Traverse City, MI 49684.

Tim's family feels he would love it if anyone who shared his love of hockey would support their favorite team by wearing a jersey, shirt, hat, etc. to his celebration of life. Kindly share thoughts and memories with his family at www.reynolds-jonkhoff.com ( http://www.reynolds-jonkhoff.com/ )
