Timothy Snook Reed, whose teenage readings of Sartre, Huxely, Nietzsche and Hemingway--along with an interest in international stamp collecting--fueled his adventurous spirit and desire to see the world, died on Monday, August 14, in Traverse City, Michigan. Tim was a resident of Perrysburg, Ohio and Arcadia, Michigan.

From early forays as a crew member aboard the Henry Ford II on the Great Lakes, hauling iron ore, driving a construction truck in Puerto Rico, and a summer cross country trip through Mexico, Tim's course was set. His subsequent career as an international banker allowed him to live the life he dreamed—world travel and a dynamic career, with a large and loving family by his side.

Tim was born in Los Angeles on June 22, 1931 to Paul R. Todd Reed and Ruth Margaret Snook. The family first moved to Chicago before settling in Birmingham, Michigan in 1939. He graduated from Baldwin High School and attended Dartmouth College where he was a budding poet and enthusiastic member of the class of 1953. He served in the Army in Colorado Springs for two years where he met his future wife Joan Martin, a student at Colorado College. Following their marriage in 1955, Tim attended Thunderbird Graduate School of International Management at Arizona State University, where he graduated first in his class.

Tim joined Monsanto Chemical Company in St. Louis, until four years later an opening at Citibank in New York City offered the kind of job he had always hoped for, an assignment outside the United States, taking him to Valencia, Venezuela. That assignment eventually led to positions in Caracas and Maracaibo, and then a posting to Quito, Ecuador.

Tim continued to advance in his career with positions in Lagos, Nigeria, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and finally Miami, where he was in charge of Citibank's Latin America corporate deposit business until his retirement.

Tim, who was predeceased by his wife Joan, married Barbara McKelvy in 2000; she survives him. Barbara and Tim enjoyed many wonderful travels together and a full and busy life in Perrysburg. Other survivors include his sisters Margaret "Biani" Moran, Sarah Reed, and Lisbeth Mitchell, his daughter Melissa Reed (Tom Putzer), and sons Peter (Karen), Chris (Diane), Mark, and Andrew (Kim), along with his stepchildren Rick Sabin (Mary), Betsy Kelsey (Reeve), and Kitsy Choka (Byron). He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and step grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and step great grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews, and friends far and wide.

Tim will be most remembered for his zest for life, deep kindness and warmth, the biggest hugs, love of the blues, his appreciation of a full turkey dinner in any season, and his infamous rendition of "La Bamba" on the Venezuelan cuatro.

A memorial service for friends and family will take place on September 15, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Timothy's in Perrysburg. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the charity of your choice.
